In this post I’m going to show you how to setup Google Analytics for your YouTube channel.

Setup Google Analytics – STEP 1

Visit www.google.com/analytics and then once the page loads click on the sign-in link at the right-hand corner of the screen and click on analytics option

STEP 2

Once the page loads in the left-hand sidebar look for the option that says “admin“, click on that.

STEP 3

Once the property information loads under the account settings click on the drop down and then look for the option that says “creating the account” and click on that.

STEP 4

Once you are on the screen, enter the details as requested there. Enter an ‘account name‘, one example could be ‘YouTube channel’

STEP 5

Enter a ;website name;, one example could be ‘YouTube channel’

STEP 6

Under the website URL box you need to enter the YouTube channel URL, so go and get that from your YouTube account.

STEP 7

Simply log-in to your YouTube account that you want to link with Google Analytics, then in the left-hand sidebar, right-click on the option that says, ‘My channel‘ and open it in a new tab.

STEP 8

Once that navigates to the page, copy the URL that is shown

STEP 9

Go back to Google Analytics and paste it under the ‘website URL‘ option. You have to remember to remove the prefix (https://) of the protocol from your copied url.

STEP 10

from the ‘industry category‘ select the one that is appropriate for your channel, one example could be ‘Internet and telecom’

STEP 11

In the ‘reporting time zone‘ select the timing (which is simply the time in your timezone) that you are in if you are from another country. You can select it from there.

STEP 12

Under the ‘data sharing settings‘, review the ones that you would like and un-check the ones that you do not want to be a part-of. Normally suggest that you leave everything as it is.

STEP 13

Click the ‘get tracking ID‘ button. Please read to the terms and services and click on the ‘I accept‘ button. That action will now create the tracking ID for this property.

STEP 14

Go back to the YouTube account. Now, you need to go to the ‘video manager‘ section. Simply click on the ‘video manager‘ link located there.

STEP 15

Once the page loads, in the left-hand menu bar click on the ‘channel option‘ and once again in the left-hand menu bar under the channel option you will have an option that says ‘advanced.’

STEP 16

Click on that and scroll to the bottom of the screen and paste that Google Analytics tracking ID over there against that label that says Google Analytics property tracking ID.

STEP 17

Click on the ‘Save‘ button. After that you should see the confirmation over there that the changes were saved.

STEP 18 – END

Scroll to the bottom to confirm. That’s how you can link Google Analytics with your YouTube channel.

Conclusion

Please note one thing, which is, that you will not see any data in analytics as soon as you link it with YouTube.

If you are not seeing any data in your Google Analytics section for your channel, even though you have done everything correctly, chances are that pretty much Google needs some time to collect the data and show it to you. In this case, you can wait for 3 days and then come back and check your analytics.
